Professor Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said is an internationally recognised Islamic scholar, author, and academic whose work focuses on Islamic jurisprudence, intellectual tradition, and contemporary Muslim thought in Europe. Born in Eritrea and raised in Asmara, he received his foundational Islamic education under the guidance of Sheikh Hamid, the Senior Judge of the Shariah Court. He later pursued advanced studies in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, where he studied with the distinguished scholar Sheikh Atiyyah Mohammed Salim before completing his PhD in Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Minnesota in the United States.

Professor Shaykh Faid’s scholarship engages classical Islamic tradition while addressing contemporary intellectual and social challenges facing Muslim communities. His research has contributed to the journals of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy and to the Encyclopaedia of Moderation produced by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Through his academic and public work, he promotes balanced Islamic scholarship, ethical leadership, and meaningful dialogue between Muslim communities and wider societies.

He is the author of The Meaning of Muhammad and Our Cultural Memory, a work exploring the enduring moral and cultural significance of the Prophet Muhammad in contemporary Muslim consciousness. The book was featured in the reviews of The Muslim 500, the globally recognised annual publication highlighting the most influential Muslim personalities worldwide. In recognition of his intellectual contributions and leadership, Professor Shaykh Faid has been included among the world’s 500 most influential Muslims for nine consecutive years by The Muslim 500.

Alongside his academic scholarship, Professor Shaykh Faid plays a significant leadership role within Muslim institutions in Europe. He currently serves as a university professor, Secretary-General of the Fatwa and Islamic Affairs Commission, and Imam and Khateeb of the Central Mosque in London. He serves as Secretary-General and Chair of the Religious Board of AMMALE (Alliance of Mosques, Associations, and Muslim Leaders in Europe), playing an important role in fostering collaborative religious leadership across Europe.

Professor Shaykh Faid is also an active public intellectual and writer. He contributes regularly as a columnist to Makka Newspaper in Saudi Arabia and BusinessPress UAE, where his writings address religion, society, and contemporary global issues. Through his scholarship, writing, and institutional leadership, he continues to play an influential role in shaping Islamic thought, leadership, and community engagement across Europe and the wider Muslim world.
